Tag, You're It: My Best Beauty Secret

This feature is called, Tag, You're It, and it's similar to a meme. Each week, we'll choose a topic and answer it ourselves. Then it's your turn to answer it in the comments section or, better still, post about it on your blog and give us all the link. We want to get to know you better. Send us your links!

This week's Tag, You're It wants to know, what is your best beauty secret? There are a million products in the world, and Vogue, Lucky, and Real Simple swear you need all of them. At this point in my life, I'm old enough to know that a personal recommendation means more than a silly magazine write up.

I wish I could reveal some amazing moisturizer that will change your life or something, but I don’t know of one. Instead, lets talk about hair.

I have a lot of hair. Not only is it really thick, I don’t get it cut nearly enough. It tends to get kind of pouffy, and no one wants that. Well, maybe some people do, but big hair isn’t really my style. Not intentionally, anyway.

That’s why I love this stuff. You just smooth a little bit on your frizzy hair, and it totally deflates it. I have some stuff that you’re supposed to put on just after you wash your hair, before you towel it dry, but I never remember to use it, but you put the Secret Weapon on dry hair, which is great for a spaz like me. And the best part is you can get it in any drugstore, and it’s only like eight bucks or something. Really quite a deal. Much cheaper than a haircut.

As a blonde person, I take mascara seriously. If I don't wear mascara my pallid lashes make me look like one of those extremophiles that live in caves or, well, Gollum. I have probably tried every mascara over the years and finally found the love of my lash life: Shu Uemura Basic Black Mascara. This is a company that specializes in all things eye. They supposedly have the world's best eyelash curler, they sell fake eyelashes that look like they're meant for the Kabuki theater, and well, the best darn mascara in the world.

What makes it so great? It's the only mascara that I've ever found that goes on so thin that, gasp!, it looks natural! I can put it on the top and bottom lashes and it stays put.

It's sold at Sephora and on beauty.com so it's easy to get, but it does cost...$27.50. But I promise, it's life changing...well, if you have pale lashes.

But what's your secret, super fox?

Sure, I'm prissy, but for the most part I don't have any true loyalties to any health and beauty product. Except for my hair. I have very thick, very bleh, very dry hair and it's impossible to find a gel that keeps it all in place without looking all slimy and nasty. The solution is Ice Spiker hair glue. I live and die by this stuff and won't put anything else in my hair unless absolutely pressured.

My favorite beauty staple is Bobbi Brown's Foundation Stick in Porcelin. I am very fair with freckles so finding a color that actually matches my skin is nearly impossible. Plus, I just don't like the way regular foundation feels. This doesn't feel like anything and it covers up red spots and zits but still lets my freckles shine through :) It's a splurge (like $35) but it is well worth it and it lasts a long time. Sephora is wonderful.

I never feel truly pulled together unless I'm wearing lip gloss. And I have to say that Bath & Body Works' Mentha Lip Shine line is fantastic. They come in colours, but my personal faves are the classic Mentha and the Cinnamint, which are clear but so shiny (without looking gauche) that you don't need any colour. Plus, they taste good and freshen your breath. And you can frequently get them free with other purchases, and they last forEVER. Excellent!

My new splurge is going to be the GoSmile teeth whitening system. I tried a sample of this at Sephora this weekend and it whitened my teeth in 20 mins with just one application - it's amazing!

Skin rev-er upper from Bare Essentials. Makes my makeup go one super smooth (cheaper than a blue peel, that's for sure--lol)

It's all about face products for me. Read all about it at http://clarityamongconfusion.blogspot.com.

I am so not girly in the beauty product sense. I wear make-up about 3 times a year and even then, I'm pretty sure it looks bad! :)

However, I have (had) terrible skin. I tried pretty much everything, then found a great dermatologist. One thing he suggested was to switch to Cetaphil face wash. It's gentle and it leaves my skin clear and not dry! (I actually use the Target brand knockoff cause I'm "thrifty" but it works just as well.)

Oh, and I have super curly hair and I would not leave the house without a spray gel in my hair. Nice shape like a gel, but not as gunky as just squirting it in your hand and dumping it in your hair. :)

Monica, you've got to try Vivid White toothpaste by Crest. I was once told my teeth were discolored by my dentist, but now people tell me how white my teeth are. It's the best whitening toothpaste out there!

Julie, I might have to get the Skin Rev-er upper. I use their powdered foundation and sometimes I think it actually plays up my pores! Zoinks.

Bryon, you're the best. Why can't all guys take such an interest in their hair?!

I started using Proactive (facewash, toner, and lotion) a month ago and my face has never been so clear and smooth. I don't really need foundation at all anymore. It's wonderful!

May,
Give those products a try, along with a light scrub on occasion. It helps clear up a muddy complexion.

Also, any time you are in San Luis Obispo on a Tuesday night, you are welcome to join us on The Porch. There are also cigars and beer involved...although I never smoke the cigars. Blech.
